Appointment will be made on the Public Only Consultant Contract 2023 (€231,215 – €277,736) at a point in line with Government pay policy. 

Hours of work: 

Full time 37 hours per week / Part time 18.5 hours per week

BEAUMONT HOSPITAL

 

Beaumont Hospital, incorporating St. Joseph’s Raheny, is a large academic teaching hospital 5km north of Dublin City centre.  It is the largest academic teaching hospital within the Dublin and North East Region and academic partner to The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland University of Medicine & Health Sciences and Dublin City University. 

 

Beaumont Hospital provides emergency and acute care services across 54 medical specialties to a local community of some 290,000 people.  In addition, it is a designated Cancer Centre and the regional treatment centre for Ear, Nose & Throat, and Gastroenterology, the national referral centre for Neurosurgery and Neurology, Renal Transplantation, the National Poisons Information Centre, Cochlear Implantation and Mechanical Thrombectomy. The Hospital has been recently designated as a European Stroke Organisation (ESO) stroke centre.

 

With a workforce of approximately 4,500 staff and a combined bed complement of 1058 (IP & DC) beds, Beaumont Hospital is the principal teaching hospital for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. It also enjoys close links with Dublin City University, especially in the area of nurse training, and with other academic institutions in respect of training and research.

 

The St. Joseph's Hospital Raheny site provides both medical and surgical inpatient care, day-care, outpatient, outpatient physiotherapy, radiology services, Care of the Elderly Rehabilitation and a 100 bedded Raheny Community Nursing Unit.

CONSULTANT IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE

 

The Emergency Medicine Department of Beaumont Hospital is a major urban academic unit and receives approximately 60,000 new patients per year.  The clinical ethos of the Directorate is in line with the Emergency Medicine Programme and National Clinical Programmes and strives to deliver high quality patient centred care.   The Department has strong link with Pre-hospital services, Primary care and all Intra-hospital specialties.  The Emergency Department established its own clinical Directorate in 2017 and aligns with Senior Management and the other Directorates to address strategic and operational issues.

 

This is a multi-consultant department with strong academic links with RCSI and the major unit for Under and Post graduate training, teaching, research and audit  The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Dublin City University facilitates the following training programmes;

 

  1. Course Speciality Training in Emergency Medicine (CTEM).
  2. Advanced Speciality Training in Emergency Medicine (ASTEM).
  3. Training doctors in General Practice and Internal Medicine training schemes.
  4. Advanced Paramedic training programme.
  5. BSc Nursing studies.
  6. Post graduate diploma in Emergency Nursing.

 

There is biweekly Consultant high quality Simulation and POCUS training. 

 

Planning and design of the new Emergency Department is proceeding to ensure a state of the art facility to address the future needs of the population and staff.

 

These appointments are under the new Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023 by Beaumont Hospital;

  • Post 1 – Temporary full time pending progression of a permanent appointment  (37 hours/week)
  • Post 2 – Locum half time (18.5 hours/week) 

These positions require a commitment of both 37 hours per week and 18.5 hours per week at Beaumont Hospital; however, we encourage applications for flexible and part-time working arrangements. Flexibility can be arranged to accommodate individual needs.

 

Applicants must be on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners, or entitled to so be within 6 months, as maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the speciality of Emergency Medicine.
