Appointment will be made on the Medical Scientist Scale (€43,892 - €71,552 LSI1 €72,938) at a point in line with Government pay policy

Hours of work: 

Full-Time, 35 hours per week

Responsibilities

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities

  1. To contribute to the provision of a high quality patient focused service.
  2. To perform such technical duties as directed by the Chief Medical Scientist or deputy.
  3. To assist in training Medical Laboratory Assistants, support staff and visiting workers as required.
  4. To contribute to maintaining department accreditation with INAB through compliance with ISO15189 standards
  5. To assist in the training of new and existing staff.
  6. To cooperate with and support all project work undertaken in the Laboratory Directorate.
  7. To assist in implementing measures for Safety, Health and Welfare to all staff.
  8. To assist in providing statistical and management information when requested.
  9. To attend courses and meetings as appropriate to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
  10. To fulfil CPD requirements.
  11. Any other duties as appropriate to the grade and qualifications.
  12. To actively participate in external and internal quality assurances schemes.
  13. To participate in the Directorate Joint Review Process

Qualifications

Selection Criteria: 

Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. 

Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.

 

Mandatory:

  1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Candidates for appointment must:

(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.

OR

(ii) Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005, (see note 1 below*), must submit proof of application for registration with the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.

The acceptable proof is correspondence from the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU confirming their application for registration as a Section 91 applicant was received by the 30th March 2021.

AND

(iii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

AND

(iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued. Applicable to Section 38 applicants only).

 

  1. Annual registration * (Applicable to Section 38 Applicants only*)

(i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Medical

Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at

CORU.

AND

(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

 

Note 1*

Section 91 candidates are individuals who qualified before 31st March 2019 and have

been engaged in the practice of the profession in the Republic of Ireland for a

minimum of 2 years fulltime (or an aggregate of 2 years fulltime), between 31st March

2014 and 31st March 2019 are considered to be Section 91 applicants under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005.
