Appointment will be made on the Biochemist Scale (€43,892 - €71,552 LSI €72,938) at a point in line with Government pay policy

Hours of work: 

Full-Time, 35 hours per week

Responsibilities

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. To carry out such duties appropriate to the office under the supervision of the Line Manager or as delegated.
  2. To perform the duties of a Biochemist in any laboratory or institution under the control of the Beaumont Hospital Board or in any outside hospital or institution with which the Beaumont Hospital Board have agreed to provide a service.
  3. To take part in clinical validation, follow-up and reporting of test results
  4. To monitor and ensure the quality of analyses and service provided by the department, through quality control and quality assurance programmes, which incorporate corrective and remedial action under the direction of the appropriate senior member of staff.
  5. To participate in training and development courses within Beaumont Hospital.
  6. To work in co-operation with other professional groups, including scientific, clinical, technical and administrative staff, to achieve the optimal clinical biochemistry service in an efficient and cost effective manner and with due regard to regulations governing health, safety and working conditions. within the laboratory
  7. To keep abreast of developments in chemical pathology, particularly  in the specialist area of work,  including the application of new techniques in the delivery of biochemistry services
  8. To participate in research and development projects as appropriate.
  9. To undertake specialised analyses, when the service is required.
  10. To participate in preparation for, and maintenance of, laboratory accreditation to ISO15189
  11. Participate in the emergency/on call duty rota scheme, if so required. The person appointed must be available to do certain emergency/on call work outside normal duty hours.
  12. Participation in any rota scheme will be agreed with the person appointed, in an equitable manner, in co-operation with the other participants.
  13. To undertake other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the hospital authority

Qualifications

Selection Criteria:

Mandatory:

  1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

(i) (a) Possess a BSc (Hons)/BA (Mod) in a subject area related to clinical biochemistry/laboratory medicine and diagnostics. (See recognised qualifications* below).

or

(b) An equivalent qualification*

OR

(ii) (a) Have obtained before March 2018, a degree in which Biochemistry was taken as a subject in the final examination, or equivalent.

and

(b) Be currently employed as a Biochemist in the Irish Health System.

And

(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
