Appointment will be made on CNM 2 Payscale at a point in line with Government pay policy

Hours of work: 

37.5 hour per week

Position Summary:

 

Post of CNM 2 in the pain management team in Beaumont Hospital. This is a specified purpose contract based in Beaumont Hospital with responsibility for the hospital’s acute pain service, under the supervision of a Pain Consultant.

 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Clinical Practice

The CNM 2 role will be based full-time in Beaumont Hospital.

 

 Be responsible for an acute pain round every morning and a complex inpatient pain round in the afternoons. They will be supported by a Fellow in chronic pain management and a supervising chronic pain Consultant.

 

Daily review of inpatient pain management referrals alongside the Pain team Fellow and Registrar. Timely reviews with development of treatment plans.

 

Record keeping documenting treatment plans, follow-up and outcomes for patients.

 

Participation in Consultant Led ward rounds.

 

Coordination of interventional treatment for inpatients.

 

Attend oncology and spinal surgery meetings, receive referrals, discuss reviews and treatment plans and track patient outcomes.

 

Attend a complex patient meeting weekly, to discuss complex patients and coordinate inpatient interventional treatments that will improve discharge targets.

 

 

Education & Development

The post holder is expected to:

 

Participate in ward based education sessions delivered to support the education of ward staff in relation to pain management, treatments and interventions.

 

Participate in the development of hospital policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines related to pain management.

 

Participate in Beaumont Hospital committees, advising in relation to pain management & ensure pain management is represented.

 

Educate patients in relation to their pain management, treatments and interventions.

Perform an annual audit of the acute pain service.

 

Self-Development

The post holder is expected to:

 

Actively pursue opportunities to advance own professional knowledge and skills and to participate in relevant ongoing professional development programs.

 

Maintain and update knowledge and keep abreast of relevant professional developments and all current trends within the specialty of Pain Medicine.

 

Develop and maintain personal and practical skills in Pain through direct patient care.

 

Discuss personal performance and future needs with the DNM.

 

Participate in performance/appraisal review with DNM.

Mandatory Requirements:

 

  • Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience
  • Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
  • Be a registered nurse/midwife on the active Register of Nurses or Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI]
  • Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 years must be in the specialty or related area.
  • Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the function of the role.
  • Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.

 

 

Desirable:

Experience with the management of patients with acute pain.
