Quality
• Assist in the development and maintenance of a Quality Assurance Programme.
• Investigate and take appropriate action in accordance with hospital policy in relation to complaints, accidents and incidents. Record, complete a report and communicate these in line with departmental protocol and organizational policy.
• Ensure that all hospital policies eg infection control, health and safety, trust in care, dignity & respect are understood and complied with by all Radiographers. Ensure that all departmental protocols and procedures are adhered to.
• Work with the relevant staff to ensure accurate records of equipment service, maintenance and performance as required and co-ordinate preventative maintenance schedules in accordance with clinical demand.
• Liaise with Technical Services on day to day maintenance and cleaning staff on day to day cleaning of Department.
Health and Safety
• Responsible for the general health and safety of patients and staff within the Department.
• Record and report on all incidents of injury/accident involving staff and/or patients.
• Promote awareness of Radiation Protection issues relating to the Diagnostic Imaging Service within the Department.
• Responsible for the day to day implementation of “best practice” in relation to the irradiation of patients.
Human Resources
• Participate as required in staff development and individual performance review process and foster a high level of morale among staff by effective motivation and communication.
• Assist in the on-going training of staff both generally and professionally to ensure staff reach their full potential and work to the overall benefit of Beaumont Hospital.
• Aim to motivate staff and promote healthy working relationships with a key focus on ensuring dignity and respect is in place.
The job description is an outline of the post as it is currently perceived by the hospital and will be subject to review and amendment. This job description will therefore be subject to change in light of the various strategies for the hospital and the development of the Clinical Directorate model and any future developments that arise and will evolve and change over time.
Selection Criteria:
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post.
Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.
Mandatory:
In exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 22 of the Health Act 2004, I hereby
approve the qualifications, as set out hereunder, for the appointment and continuing as
Reporting Sonographer.
(a) Candidates for appointment must:
(i) Be registered on the Radiography Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.
Or
(ii) Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005, (see Note 1 below*), must submit proof of application for registration with the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU. The acceptable proof is correspondence from the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU confirming their application for registration as a Section 91 applicant.
And
(iii) Have 6 year’s fulltime (or an aggregate of 6 years) post Ultrasound course scanning time.
And
(iv) Possess a minimum of 10 postgraduate ECTS credits or equivalent relevant to the profession or the management of the profession as adjudged by the HSE and verified by the IIRRT** (see Note 2 below).
(b) Requisite Knowledge & Ability
Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, managerial, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
(i) Practitioners must maintain annual registration on the relevant division of
the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration
Board at CORU.
And
(ii) Confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual
Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
If an appointee has previously been employed in the Civil or Public Service and that appointee is entitled to or in receipt of a pension from the Civil or Public Service or where a Civil/ Public Service pension comes into payment during the appointee’s re-employment that pension will be subject to abatement in accordance with Section 52 of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and other Provisions) Act 2012.
